A Symphony in the Workplace

                     BEETHOVEN

The name is synonymous with a giant slobbery St. Bernard, but there is a much more influential figure that I’m talking about…Ludwig van Beethoven is one of the world’s greatest and most famous composers. With over 9 symphonies, 32 sonatas, 5 concertos, and 16 string quartets, Beethoven is considered a musical genius.

The work that goes into creating even one piece of music is incredibly difficult to say the least. Every instrument has an incredibly important role to play in each piece. In fact, each piece of music is written specifically for the sound that every instrument makes.

Regardless of the role that the instrument plays within the entire piece, there is always an importance of all the instruments together as a whole to produce the finished sound.

Now, I understand that our industry doesn’t have as beautiful a sound as one of Beethoven’s symphonies, but we do work together like a giant orchestra. From the harp to the cello to the xylophone, we all have a role to play in order to complete the piece. Each person has a distinct role to play as does each instrument in an orchestra.

Regardless of the type of music, we are the garage rock group, the marching band, and the high school ensemble. We create the symphony and all have a role to play, but without the hard work and dedication from one another, we don’t have the finished sound.

How many times have you heard someone say that they have a dream and that they will make it happen?
Probably everyone you know has, at some point, put some kind of effort into their dream, unfortunately, it rarely works out that they achieve it. The greatest dreams aren’t impossible, but they do take extra effort to make them become a reality.

Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed that the world was a free place for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, or gender. He believed that it was going to happen. He did everything in his power to achieve this; giving us the ability to continue his dream and the hope to really accomplish equality for all.

Michael Jordan dreamed that he would be an amazing basketball player; however, he actually got kicked off of his high school team. Knowing that he needed to step up to make his dream come true, Michael trained everyday and worked even harder on a daily basis. He believed that he could be the best, so he put the extra effort in; years later he achieved his goal with the Chicago Bulls.

Jim Carrey worked hard to make ends meet for his family when he was young, but he dreamed to be a comedian. He believed that his dream would become a reality, but also understood that actions needed to be taken—so he moved to LA and shadowed Rodney Dangerfield and actually ended up becoming his opening act. He achieved his goal by forming relationships with other amazing comedians and mentors. Now he is known worldwide as a hilarious comedian and actor.

Everyone has dreams and everyone works hard to accomplish them…or so they say. We often forget that to really achieve our dreams, we have to give 100% of ourselves to obtain that reality. The dreams that mean the most to us are usually the ones that are hardest to achieve, but the key is to truly believe and put the effort in to make it your reality.
